Overview
This map visualizes data from the 1926 First All-Union Census of the Soviet Union, showing the plurality ethnicity of the rural population in each district (raion) of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic.
The map shows plurality percentages of those categorized in the census as Ukrainian (indicated by sandy yellow) throughout the vast majority of the Republic. Pluralities of those categorized as Russian (indicated by light blue) can be seen in the south and east, and also on the border with Russia in the north. Pluralities of those categorized as Germans (indicated by lime green), Bulgarians (indicated by yellow), Greeks (indicated by brown), and Moldovans (indicated by purple) are seen in the south, with one plurality district of those categorized as Polish (indicated by red) in the northwest.
The boundary lines indicate those of the March 1 1927 administrative division.
